The Best of the Season to you all!

12/28/2014

It's been a very hectic, yet fruitful year here at the Hulst household. I want to take a moment to thank all of you were part of it. There were many great adventures had upon the river this year. And we will all take away memories of either the great fish taken, or perhaps the big one that got away. Either way, great memories of time spent with friends or loved ones.

I had a chance to get out of the river over the holidays with my loved ones…

Looking forward to being with you soon!

Nathan

Winter steelhead….Fishing at its finest!

Winter seems to come early again this year, thankfully the steelhead didn't forget to show up. There are large number of excellent Lakerun Browns to be caught, and a smorgasbord of steelhead around.. From the brand-new shiny new ones, to the beautiful rosy cheeked veterans, winter is a trout fisherman's paradise.

Salmon in full swing!

The Salmon run is in full swing, and while I haven't posted in quite a while... We've been out there every day. Even a few steelhead have shown up from time to time.

I had the pleasure of guiding "the best fishermen on the whole river" a few days ago. Here are a couple of pictures of she and her assistant Jerry. What a pleasure to learn from and assist such a gifted angler!

It's a boy!!

Sorry for the long delay since my last post, but things have been rather busy around the Hulst household lately. On May 27th my wife Amy gave birth to our third son, Judah Nathanael Hulst. We are very blessed in that he is very healthy, but so far not letting us sleep much.

The spring steelhead season was another good one! We were so busy I didn't have time to post any of the many bragging shots of some tremendous steelhead many of you brought into my net. Trout season is currently in full swing, and there are some mighty healthy browns to be caught this year! With the late spring, the river is full of many different forage options for a trout. Baitfish and fry line the shores, bugs are active both below the surface and topwater (there have been some tremendous grey drake spinner falls the last couple of weeks), and there are still a few suckers and steelhead finishing their spawning run. Bottom line, fishing has been a little sporadic with so much food in the system. There are different fish targeting different food sources all throughout the river. You can fish any number of different methods and be successful. The good news is, you get at least a couple chances at a really big fish each time you go out!

In honor of me being a new dad again, we are offering a Father's Day special through the end of the month. A half day trout trip will be only $200. Hope to see you out there,

Nathan

Big trout

7/2/2014

With the cooler than normal summer still hanging around, water temps are still in the mid 60s and the trout are feeding well. It seems like every trip out we have at least one or two chances at a really big one.

Here's a picture of Al with a monster Brown that he landed yesterday. A 12 lb trophy on 5lb test, nice work Al!

Would that we can all be as tough as Max when we are his age.

I've run into a number of unexpected openings next week, with a break in the weather the fishing should be great. Give a call if you want a chance at a big fish.

Signs of spring

There are signs that the inevitable spring is starting to show its face. Some shiny fish are entering the river system to add to the plentiful supply of winter holdovers. Had a great day out with Mark today. Family illness and nasty weather has kept me off the water for a spell. This trip, we more than made up for some lost opportunities last fall. He even let the guide play with a couple! Here are a few pictures of some of the ones that made it to the net.

I have some openings left for this spring, but they are filling fast. If you want to get out, don't delay in reserving your days.

Here is a picture of Dennis with a tremendous Brown Trout from this week! Sorry the photographer (yours truly) didn't take the best photo. You have to cut me a little slack-- it was chilly that day. Happily, looks like we may see 40's next week. Should be some great fishing.

What a relief it is-get outside it didn't kill me, probably won't get you either!

The thermometer finally promised to creep above 20 degrees the other day. It might have- but not by much. Nevertheless, had to get out on the river for a few hours- and it felt sooo good! Honestly, after all the days below zero, 20 felt surprisingly comfortable. The sun came out for a while and the fish obliged! I feel recharged.
