Enjoyed getting out with Dave and Chuck before the deep freeze set in. The river has been fishing well, but was flowing slush today. This cold snap should give the steelhead a well needed break, and the next warm up should bring renewed opportunities.
If you have ever wondered how well catch and release really works, Dave's last fish of the day (the nice buck steelhead) had been caught twice before and released a third time by Dave. The way that fish battled him, it was obviously none the worse for the wear. Not that I have any problem keeping a few fish, but it is a thought worth considering. Not the kind of mending that I usually like to talk about, but the family has been sick post holidays. Nothing like a little rod therapy to help lift the spirits. Fishing has remained strong, and the bump in water levels should help keep things from getting stale. We're getting a little shot of winter finally, but warmer weather for this weekend should provide a good opportunity to get out and enjoy great winter fishing.
