Muskegon on it'sMarch--towards spring

3/6/2013

There were times today that felt like spring was just around the corner. While I love the winter, spring is the time for renewal. The warmer air definitely lifts ones spirits. The steelhead that we caught today seemed to feel the same energy, putting on some good spring like battles. We even had a few jumpers in the 34 degree water.
It is just around the corner, so make sure to get your days reserved before they are all spoken for.

While I have been fishing a bunch, haven't been posting at all  this summer.   There don't seem to be enough hours in the day, but I couldn't resist sharing a couple photos from Gabriel and my recent "salmon" scouting trip.  He helped dad catch and release this beautiful brown trout above, and brought in a bonus early steelhead to boot.  Looking forward to seeing so many friends this fall as things get ramped up and migratory salmon and steelhead make their way up the rivers.  Water levels remain very low--pray for rain!

July River Report

Sorry for the delay in the report, I have very been busy on the river.  I'm just going to leave this apology up until I get better at posting reports.  The water levels are at nice place with good color for this time of year 1500 cfs.   Wading is an option at this time.

Water temps are in the upper 60's to low 70's.  Trout fishing opportunities continue to be good.   Caddis continue to  provide the bulk of our dry fly fishing, and streamer fishing has been particularly good with the nicely stained water.

We continue to catch some smallmouth while trout fishing, and the fishing should just get better for our bronzeback friends as the summer heats up.

It is a great time of the year to fish the river.  There are so many opportunities for many different species using different tecniques, it's hard to decide which way to fish until you hit the river.

We still have dates available in July and August, if you need to get out and experience some of the best fishing Michigan has to offer.

Here's a picture of a nice river rainbow caught on a streamer mid-day.

Nathan

PS
Fall Salmon dates are already filling up fast, get in touch with us to book yours before they are gone.
