When people ask about winter fishing, I usually tell them that a typical December/January day(without wind and rain often seen in the spring and fall) can feel quite comfortable. Well, we had the worst of the worst the weather can throw at you on Thursday. The guys were in from Indianapolis so we decided to give it a go. Slushy snow, temps in the low to mid 30's, constant rain blown by a 20-30mph east wind, all hindering our steelhead fishing persuits. All I can say is that these guys are tough, bad to the bone in my book.
I never worry about fishing nasty weather, all I have to do is outlast the other guys in my boat. Confession: I had a little self doubt on Thursday--it was wet and cold and the guys showed no signs of weakening! Thankfully our hard work and perseverence paid off. We landed a very good number of quality steelhead and trout, and had an epic battle resulting in the big hen Jerry is pictured with to highlight our day. It was definitely a memorable day, and we were the only ones on the water that day to experience it. Thanks guys, hopefully we can do it again.
